I am here to remind parents who do not want their public school to hand over their children's information to military recruiters that they need to sign an "opt-out" form for the school. It is not just contact information that gets handed over. They can get whatever information may be in the "directory" information at the school.
Directory information may include a student's name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received, and the most recent previous educational agency or institution attended by the student. The school must publicly define what it considers directory information.
