A simple solution, for now...

Here is what I want.

I want this district to stop catering to the military recruiters.

I want a balance of career options presented to the children  in this school district.

What if McDonalds was on campus twice a month looking for new employees to flip their burgers?

What influence would Mcdonalds have just by their showing up twice a month and giving free logo merchandise to children?

That is why TV commercials show over and over - it is the consistent repetition that gets the attention.

I would like this district to put on a job/career fair once a year and invite the military and colleges and employers and parents and people who like their jobs to come and be present and show a wide variety of choices to the children in
this school district.

Done.

That would satisfy the requirement to have military recruiters to have equal access to students and then the school may continue to get their federal funding.

How hard can that be?

I would like more for this small district.
Stay tuned.

Seven Miles

How can 7 miles make such
a big difference?

Seven miles down the road from my town is a much larger school district. People that I talk to about my concerns about the small rural district  and their kindly attitude to military recruiters at my kid's school --- they just say, "Oh, that's just how it is in (my  town name here).
It is just a redneck town.
It has always been that way
 in (my town name here.)"

Hmmm....
This will be an interesting time to see how I can effect change in my small rural school.
It will be an interesting process for me and for them also.
I will find a way to make it fun!

I am against the military recruiting in public schools.

That does not mean I do not support the troops.

One has nothing to do with the other.

I hate snakes.
I like apples.

See what I mean?

I am starting this little blog and website to hopefully connect with other like-minded folks.
As far as I know, I am the only parent in my kid's small rural school district who publicly feels strongly about this issue.
I know I am not alone in the whole scheme of things and I am willing to be the face and voice of opposition
at this school.

Is it a fun position?
Nope.

Is it an awkward position?
Yep.

Do I like many things about this school?
Yep.

Are there some changes I would
 like to see happen?
You betcha.
